Instructions for use of ProCat-Cat registry

Change cat information

Change cat information-page will be opened when basic information for the new cat is saved or you can open the page from the link "Change cat information" in the end of Full information of cat -page if you have edit rights to the cat information.

Who has rights to change cat information?

The user who has created the cat has always right to edit cat information. Also all users who are related to the cat = has been added to cat information as a breeder, owner or as Cat lives with-relation, has edit rights to cat information. User who has edit righs can give edit rights to other users also.

Basic information

The following information can be given as basic information to the cat:

Sex which can be selected from option list - it is not required, but it is used when parents are chosen to other cats so define it always when you know it.

Name information - name is divided to tittels (separately tittels awarded as adult and altered cats and also tittels which are added in the end of name), country codes (which are used in FIFe - earlier different FIFe members had different ways to use country code - some FIFe members added it in the end of name, but nowadays naming is regulated by FIFe so that it is added always in front of name) and the actual name. Give all parts of the name to their fields - this makes searching cats with name more accurate and also name of all cats follow the same format then. You can also give pet name - it is added after cat name separated to different column or by apostrophes after the name when cat name is used.

Breed and color (fenotype, including tail length and ear type definitions) can be defined with FIFe EMS codes or by selecting different color definitions from the options lists for different properties of color definition. FIFe EMS code is divided to 2 fields - breed and color part - and they can be used separately so that you can define breed from the breed list but give color with EMS code or vice versa - you can use FIFe EMS code also with breeds which are not accepted by FIFe. If the full color information is not known, you can use color definitions also partly (in some cases with FIFe EMS code also - missing color can be replaced with ?-sign in most cases). The color definition and FIFe EMS code is added to cat information after saving - if the text definition and to color options doesn't come to cat information after saving, make a correction to definitions by selecting information from options.

Color definition or information of genotype when it differs from fenotype etc. can be written to Genotype text field when needed.

You can select blood group from blood group option list

You can select that the cat is available for breeding by clicking "In breding" check box. The cat is added to Breeding cats list. You can delete it from list by clicking "In breeding" check box when it has a checked mark.

You can also select that the kitten / cat is for sale by clicking "For sale" check box.

You can define quality of the cat from Quality options (contact admistrator if you want to have more options)

You can define 2 different country information to the cat - original country = the countr where the cat is born, and the country where the cat lives currently by selecting the country from the option list.

Parents can be selected with "Choose sire" or "Choose dam" links - which open "Search cats" page where you can search the parent with all search criteria ProCat-cat registry offers - by default sex is used as a search criteria - you can delete sex-criteria if needed by selecting the option "Any value". After giving search criteria, click "Search" button. Select the parent by clicking cat's name in the result list. See also Search cats. "Choose sire" and "Choose dam" are available if the cat is not linked to any litter = any litter information is defined earlier - if the cat is linked to the litter, parents, birthdate or breeder information can be changed in Add or change litter information-page which can be opened by clicking "Litter information" link.
Dates (date of birth, date of death) are divided to 3 parts - first field is date of month which is a text field, second part is month which can be selected from list and the third part is year which is a text field. If litter information is already linked to the cat, birthdate can be changed in Litter information-page.
You can mark that the cat is already dead by clicking Dead -check box. Date of death (see Dates above) or reason for death is known can also be informed - reason for death can be selected from the option list (contact administrator to get more options)
In Add or change cat information-page directly you can add a photo which is used in pedigrees and displayed also in the top right corner of Full information of cat-page. When the displayed picture is displayed smaller than the original size, a link to see the photo in original size is added to photo. Any file found in the internet can be used - give address (URL) to define the photo to be used. Address of the picture is easiest to add by copying the Address (URL) from Properties-page for the photo - also width and height of the picture is found in Properties-page. You can also add a photografer and age of cat when the photo is taken to photo information.
You can add more information as a text to the cat in Remarks -text field. Please notice that the same text is used when the cat information is viewed with different languages.

When you have given all information, save the changes by clicking "Save" -button. Save changes also before you go on to define additional information or also before you select any functions found in Add or change cat information -page. You can save information whenever, and see the results of Inbreeding coefficient for 6 generations and ancestor loss coefficient for 10 generations and also the changes to property information (colorpoint, dilution, cinnamon and chocolate/brown-gene inheritance) after save when parents or color definitions are changed.

Coefficient calculation is optimized so that best possible value with the most suitable work load to the server - in certain point the load and also time save function takes increases remarkable but the value of coefficient does not change much anymore.

If you added parents to earlier added cat which has offspring (list of offspring is found in Full information of cat-page) please compare the parents' pedigrees for the nearest some offspring generations also to update the inbreeding and ancestor loss coefficient information for the offspring. Coefficient changes are not automatically updated and the change may be remarkable at least to the closest relatives.

After saving the basic information cat, you can add a large variety of other information to the cat information. All additional information is listed in the end of Add or change cat information -page. In the beginning of information group, there is a link for adding new information and after each information saved earlier there is "Change" link to select information for changing and "Delete" link to delete the selected information.

Persons related to the cat / access rights to other users

With Person information you can define persons who are related to the cat somehow or define edit rights for other users or define who are allowed to see the restricted property / caretaking information you have defined to the cat. Access rights may be given to individual users or to your own user group. Any user who has been defined as a breeder, owner, cat lives with gets edit right to cat information.

You can add a new user to persons by clicking "Add person to a cat" link, user groups are added by clicking "Add usergroup to a cat" link. When you click the link to add a person, a search page to find any registered user is opened - you can search users with their family and first name. Click "Search" to get a list of users. When you select Add usergroup function, list of your own usergroups is opened straightaway. Select a user or usergroup from the list by clicking the name, after which the page to select the relationship is opened. Select the suitable relationship and click "Save" button.

Person information can be changed by clicking "Change" icon/link after the person information you want to change and earlier saved person information can be deleted by clicking "Delete" icon/link after the information you want to delete.

Identification information

Several identification information can be added to the cat information - for example all register numbers in different organisations given to the cat or microchip number (contact administrator to get more options). Identification information can be added by clicking "Add identification information" link. Select identification type and write identification number to the field and click Save-button. Changes to identification information can be done by clicking "Change" icon/link after the identification information to be changed and deleted by clicking "Delete" icon/link after the information to be deleted.

Photos

You can add many photos to be displayed in the end of Full information of cat -page. You can also add photographer, age of cat when photo was taken and description text for every photo (please remember that the same text is used with different languages). Any photo which is available in internet can be used - photo is defined as an address (URL). Click "Add a photo" link to add photos for the cat.

With order number you can manage in which order the photos are displayed in Full information of cat -page. I advice to leave a cap between numbers to arrange the order later.

When the photo is saved, it's size is defined automatically. Width and height is used when the picture has to be displayed smaller than the original size - if the picture is displayed smaller, also a link to see the picture with full size is added to the picture. Any photo found in internet can be used - add address (URL) of the picture file to the field (easiest to add it is to copy Address (URL) from the Picture's Properties page. You can also add name of the photografer to Photografer field and give cat's age (with years and months) to Age in photo -fields and write description for every photo. Save photo by clicking "Save" button. You can change photo information later by clicking "Change" icon/link after the photo you want to change and delete a photo by clicking "Delete" icon/link after the photo to be deleted.

Caretaking actions

You can keep registry of caretaking actions which needs to be renewed or show how well you take care of parents of your kittens or even inform what actions you have already completed to your kittens by adding caretaking actions information to your cat's information. You can restrict the publicity of the information - for example that only you see the information.

Click "Add caretaking action" link to add new actions. A page where you can select type of caretaking action from option list and specify the action by selecting "Reason / Type of disease" option (contact administrators to get more options). More information about the reason or diagnosis can be written to Disease (accurate diagnosis) text field. Add date of action to follow-up next time the action has to be renewed and used medicine, side effecs or other remarks. If you want to restrict the publicity of the information, select "Result/property is shown only to restricted users" checkbox. The users who has access to the information is defined as Person information to the cat - if you don't give access to any other users, only you will see the information. Save information by clicking "Save" -button.

You can change the information later by selecting "Change" icon/link after the information you want to change and delete information by clicking "Delete" icon/link after the action you wan to delete.

Test results, health information and other properties

You can add genetic information related to fenotype and DNA-test results to cat information. Both information is used to define cat's genotype. You can also add other health information - test information of any tests to prevent diseases, structural abnormalities or diseases influenced by environmental factors (non-herited diseases) and other property information to cat information by same basic functionality.

Click "Add test result / property" link to add new test results, health issues or other properties. A page where you can select a suitable property from defined options (contact administrator to get more options). Select a method for testing or recogizing from the the options. You can define the test result by writing the number to size or by selecting the result with radio buttons from the pre-defined options which are: No test result or result other than pos/neg (default), Negative, Positive, Normal, Abnormal, Partly abnormal, Non-carrier (homozygote neg.), homozygote positive or Carrier (heterozygote). You can also give test date and add other remarks.

If you want to show the result only for restricted users, click "Result/property is shown only to restricted users" checkbox. Users who are allowed to see the test result can be defined in Person information to the cat - by adding users or usergroups.

Save test result / property by clicking "Save"-button. You can change the information later by clicking "Change" icon/link after the information to be changed or delete the information by clicking "Delete" icon/link after the information to be deleted.

Show results

You can add show results awarded in CFA or FIFe shows - or other shows accordingly.

Give show date (or start and end date if the show takes action for many days) and show place (as a text). Select show class from the options. Results which can't be defined according to CFA show results can be written to "Result (in FIFe show)" field. Results in CFA shows can be defined by adding the number of times (judges) the cat awarded different result. You can also write the tittel awarded in the show to the "Awarded tittel in the show" field. Save the result by clicking "Save"-button. You can change the result later by clicking "Change" icon/link after the show result or delete the result by clicking "Delete" icon/link after the result to be deleted.
